NOUR BISHOUTY & ADRIAN SCHINDLER: IN BETWEEN THE VERSES WINGING FROM HILL TO HILL, ALL WAS UTTERLY SILENT
Mysterious tricks. A room thick with smoke. Oranges hover mid-air. A rope twists against its own weight. A clock ticks, its sound folding in on itself. Window signs stretch across the walls like sisters waiting to be seated. Smoke rises. Characters disappear and reappear. A postmaster detaches and slides along the floor. An old friend brims with water and trembles. A crescent moon twitches. An amputated leg leans forward, anticipating. Horses in the sky. Trees pause, then begin again. Unaccountable turns.

Nour Bishouty and Adrian Schindler present a lecture-performance marking the conclusion of their one-month residency at Bulegoa z/b, which comprised protocols of writing, reading, and drawing, as well as public encounters and screenings. Their methods explore the narrative potential of magic and the dream as editorial spaces, navigating the disjointedness of Palestinian time through a cyclical approach. This event is part of an ongoing project that examines the politics of naming and the slippages between historical preservation and fiction, drawing on archival material, fictional correspondences, and critical fabulation.

Nour Bishouty is a multidisciplinary artist working across video, sculpture, works on paper, digital images, and writing. Broadly concerned with gaps in archival memory and the Western production of knowledge and fantasy, her practice explores notions of articulation, permission, and the generative possibilities of misunderstanding. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Museo Universitario del Chopo (Mexico City, Forthcoming 2026), Liverpool Biennial, Cooper Cole (Toronto), Nuit Blanche (Toronto), Art Jameel (Jeddah), La Biennale de Québec, MOCA Toronto, Darat Al Funun (Amman), Casa Árabe (Madrid), Mosaic Rooms (London), and Beirut Art Centre.

Adrian Schindler is a French-German visual artist and filmmaker. By means of a mostly collaborative practice that takes the form of films, performances, installations and public events, he has been examining European fascist and colonial legacies through a biographical lens. Drawing on decolonial theory and critical whiteness, he approaches historical documents as performative tools to address how the past makes itself present in current power relations. His work has been presented at MACBA (Barcelona), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Collection Lambert (Avignon), FID (Marseille), Centre d’art Le Lait (Albi), The Green Parrot (Barcelona), and Mahal Art Space (Tangier), among others.

*In between the verses winging from hill to hill, all was utterly silent by Nour Bishouty and Adrian Schindler was selected for residency along with Tiento’s proposal to create a study group in the 2024 open call for residency.
