{"id":9641,"date":"2019-10-15T15:32:43","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T13:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bulegoa.org\/?p=9641"},"modified":"2019-10-15T15:31:44","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T13:31:44","slug":"session-85-illegal_cinema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bulegoa.org\/en\/session-85-illegal_cinema\/","title":{"rendered":"SESSION 85, ILLEGAL_CINEMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Screening of <strong><em>The Girls of Kamare<\/em><\/strong> (Ren\u00e9 Vi\u00e9net, 1974), proposed by Yen Noh and Sven L\u00fctticken and followed by discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Ren\u00e9 Vi\u00e9net\u2019s film <em>The Girls of Kamare<\/em> is largely based on the Japanese film <em>Terrifying Girls\u2019 High School: Lynch Law Classroom.<\/em> A former member of the Situationist International and Sinologist, Vi\u00e9net had already performed a <em>d\u00e9tournement<\/em> (a critical appropriation) of a martial arts film from Hong Kong under the title <em>Can Dialectics Break Bricks?<\/em> (1972). For his second film, he turned his attention to the Japanese genre of \u201cpink\u201d films. With the original film having been characterized as a \u201cdizzying combination of prison-movie archetypes, social satire, and S &amp; M-fueled kink,\u201d Vi\u00e9net\u2019s <em>d\u00e9tournement<\/em> adds new scenes as well as subtitles that attack the spectacle and the state, structuralism and Maoism. Yen and Sven will screen the film while d\u00e9tourning it in turn, adding some thoughts on the possibilities for unlawful alliance of micro-life-forces that take shape and mobilize at all political levels within and against the neoliberal state-corporate machine.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Girls of Kamare<\/em> first came to mind after Yen and Sven watched Nagisa Oshima\u2019s film <em>In the Realm of the Senses<\/em> (1976) whose porno-graphic disruption of the body exceeds and transgresses imperial militarism by way of \u201cautomated sexuality.\u201d Yen is currently a resident artist at Bulegoa z\/b with her proposal <em>The Im\/possible Avant-Garde: Can We Talk About MAVO?<\/em>. She is in the process of completing her thesis <em>DidLineMurderCircle, And Run to the Lowest Paradise<\/em> on Korean poet, artist, and architect Yi Sang, whose run to the \u201cLowest Paradise\u201d is an escape from Korea\u2019s colonial modernity\u2014performed together with his partner Geumhong, a sex worker.
