Sitting somewhere between a happening, an occupation, a programmation and a book synopsis, Cally Spooner will be presenting a rehearsal at the BAD Dance Festival in Bilbao for a project that will later premiere in November 2017 at Playground festival in Leuven.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 2015 Cally Spooner has been probing the connections between social, economic, biological and neuronal organisation, thereby coming closer to staging a question: how to imagine new conditions and terms for a performing company, a corporate company or the company of others per se, in 2017?<\/span><\/p>\n

At the BAD Dance Festival in Bilbao Spooner will be bringing core members of the company to run a public rehearsal and a workshop, followed by a live rehearsal. Through readings, body movements and music, they will endeavour to understand how they might remain close, and yet independently un-synced.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event takes place over two days: a workshop at Bulegoa z\/b on October 23 from 11.00am to 1.00pm, and an open rehearsal at La Fundici\u00f3n on October 25 from 12.00pm to 6.00pm and a performance at 7.30pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

In advance of her open rehearsal at the BAD Festival, Cally Spooner will be presenting at Bulegoa z\/b a workshop called AGAINST THE PERFORMATIVE. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018The Performative\u2019 is a concept which has been handled in many ways over the last decades, and recently by Maurizio Lazzarato to describe the clich\u00e9s, protocols or sound-bites, created by governing or managerial powers, that are distributed to subject\u2019s to utter, thereby controlling and eroding life. Whilst reflecting on capitalism’s mastering of language, time and \u2018all that lives\u2019, Spooner and her collaborators discuss the options for finding alternative rhythm and vocabulary to the so called \u2018Performative\u2019, in a workshop on presence and truth telling for 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cally Spooner <\/b><\/span>(b.1983, UK)<\/span>. <\/span>Using text, sound and choreography, the Athens based artist\u00a0stages absurdist replays of the political, economic and media rhetoric of our time.\u00a0Arriving from a training in Philosophy and landing somewhere between stable, formal compositions and living, social events, her work prods and make restless the hierarchies between those who hold power to manage bodies, language and thought, and those who do not.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cally\u00a0Spooner’s most recent solo shows include Whitechapel Gallery, London (2017),\u00a0The New Museum, New York, The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (both 2016). Her recent group shows include Serpentine Gallery (2017) and the Geneva Moving Image Biennial (2016-17). Her book of Scripts<\/i> is published by Slimvolume (2016), and her novel Collapsing In Parts<\/i> is published by Mousse (2012). She is the current writer in residence at the Whitechapel Gallery, London (2016-17).<\/span><\/p>\n

OFFSHORE IN BILBAO (A REHEARSAL)<\/i> is commissioned and produced by Playground (STUK Kunstencentrum & M-Museum, Leuven) and co-produced by Bulegoa z\/b as part of Corpus,<\/span> network for performance practice<\/span>. The presentation in Bilbao is produced in collaboration with the Bilbao BAD Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n
