{"id":25053,"date":"2026-01-22T18:54:48","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T17:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bulegoa.org\/?p=25053"},"modified":"2026-01-22T19:03:31","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T18:03:31","slug":"session-119-illegal-_cinema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bulegoa.org\/en\/session-119-illegal-_cinema\/","title":{"rendered":"SESSION 119, ILLEGAL _CINEMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Screening of <\/span><b><i>Road<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by <\/span><b>Alan Clarke<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1987, 67 min), proposed by <\/span><b>Rafael \u00c1lvarez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, followed by a discussion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amongst the less well-known figures of British social realism \u2013 usually associated with names like Mike Leigh or Ken Loach \u2013 we find Alan Clarke, a radical filmmaker who turned British public television into a space of political and social confrontation, repeatedly coming up against conservative censorship and the institutional machinery of Margaret Thatcher\u2019s United Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clarke\u2019s refusal to soften his portrayal of social violence has bequeathed us this harsh documentary of the NO FUTURE movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The film unfolds along a single street in the north of England, portraying the everyday life and consequences resulting from the despoilment of the working class: chronic unemployment, alcoholism and generational desperation. Countering the official narrative of prosperity, Alan Clarke shows the entrails of a broken community that no longer hopes for redemption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rafael \u00c1lvarez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Barcelona, 1999) lives in Bilbao and is a cofounder of the film club <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zine de Barrio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
