Tokimagik, a workshop led by the Jeleton team, is part of Urak dakar<\/i><\/a>, the 2022-2023 edition of Space is the Place \/ The Place is Space<\/i><\/a>, a programme which aims to analyse the role of art as a critical practice that provides us with tools for pausing, looking and situating ourselves in the world, for creating situations and imagining ways of living and producing space. The programme runs as a series of periodical encounters which may be workshops, presentations, reading sessions, walks, actions in different territories, or artistic production.<\/p>\n

Workshop with Jeleton on gesture and fiction, art and magic, memory and struggle, drawing for worldmaking, and posing.<\/b><\/p>\n

Date: 19\/06\/2022<\/b><\/p>\n

Schedule: Intensive, 10:00 am\u201310:00 pm at Bulegoa z\/b.<\/b><\/p>\n

TOKIMAGIK
\n<\/b>A day-long solstice workshop, from 10 am to 10 pm, a limited but extended time, with its pauses, lunch and afternoon nap, with its potential (you can go home and come back, we hope). A visionary, intergalactic Sunday. Away from work and rest. A meeting of young and old, story-tellers and dancers of all genders, singers, makers of drawings, at Bulegoa z\/b, Solokoetxe; and if the weather\u2019s good, in the square, the park, the street. We\u2019ll do as much as we can to make sure there is no racist, transphobic, sexist, ablist or classist violence. No heroes please. With glitter and lightning and space-time travel. A multilingual meeting with improvised group translation.<\/p>\n

Ideas for action:<\/p>\n

– Hiding alchemist recipes and formulas in stories<\/p>\n

– Dancing dances to occupy the space<\/p>\n

– Singing songs to break the world open<\/p>\n

– Drawing cute things<\/p>\n

What we do will scatter seeds in all directions; one of them: a collective graphic and sound mural for a group exhibition in winter to be curated by Bulegoa z\/b, with those participants who wish to be included, led by Jeleton as part-time psychopomp apprentices.<\/p>\n

Jeleton<\/b> is a team set up in 1999 by Jes\u00fas Arpal Moya, or Jes\u00fas Jeleton, and Mar\u00eda de los \u00c1ngeles Alc\u00e1ntara, or Gelen Jeleton, to work in iconographic, literary and musical repertoires, and pick up on, criticise and warp the artistic repertoires we\u2019ve been (mis)educated in. To scatter the outcomes in space, time and distribution channels, resisting being de-activated by the contexts their work is presented in. Their work has been taken to La Taller, Centro P\u00e1rraga, El Respiradero, Halfhouse, MACBA, X Bienal Centroamericana, Tabakalera, Bulegoa z\/b and Manifesta 8, among other places.<\/p>\n

Urak dakar<\/em> is supported by the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the Zinebi Festival.<\/strong><\/p>\n
