\n<\/b>How can a landscape speak?
\n<\/i>It\u2019s like wondering whether the grass, the crickets,
\n<\/i>or the pond are only a backdrop of events,
\n<\/i>or whether they are participants of events,
\n<\/i>with their shadows, depths, sounds,
\n<\/i>waiting to become the narrators?\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
The film traces a journey through the memories of antifascist fighter Sonja (97), one of the first women Partisans in Yugoslavia, who was also among the leaders of the Resistance movement at Auschwitz. The film makes her story travel through time towards the bodies of a new generation of antifascists, suggesting that it is always possible to think and practice resistance.<\/p>\n
Marta Popivoda<\/b>\u00a0is a filmmaker, video artist, and researcher. Her work explores tensions between memory and history, collective and individual bodies, as well as ideology and everyday life, with a focus on antifascist and feminist potentialities of the Yugoslav socialist project. Popivoda\u2019s first feature documentary,\u00a0Yugoslavia, How Ideology Moved Our Collective Body<\/i>, premiered at the 63rd Berlinale and was later screened at many international film festivals. The film is part of the permanent collection of MoMA New York, and is featured in\u00a0What Is Contemporary Art?<\/i>,\u00a0<\/i>MoMA\u2019s online course about contemporary art from 1980 to the present. Her work has also been featured in major art galleries, such as Tate Modern London, MoMA New York, M HKA Antwerp, MAXXI Rome, Museum of Modern Art + MSUM Ljubljana, etc. She is the initiator of\u00a0illegal_cinema<\/b>\u00a0(Belgrade, Paris, Bilbao). Popivoda received the prestigious Berlin Art Prize for the visual arts by Akademie der K\u00fcnste Berlin and Edith-Russ-Haus Award for Emerging Media Artist. Her latest feature documentary\u00a0Landscapes of Resistance\u00a0<\/i>premiered in the Tiger Competition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, IFFR 2021. By now the film won several awards (Cinema du R\u00e9el –\u00a0Library Award;\u00a0Jeonju IFF –\u00a0Best Picture Award;\u00a0Thessaloniki Documentary Festival –\u00a0Golden Alexander award;\u00a0Sarajevo Film Festival –\u00a0Heart of Sarajevo; Beldocs – Best Film Award;\u00a0Lima Alterna IFF –\u00a0Best Film Award).<\/p>\n
