The film explores the era through the members of a theater troupe, but it eschews \u201cdrama,\u201d \u201caction\u201d and \u201cevents\u201d in favour of subtler cultural cues and what the director calls \u201cthe deadlock that exists between humans and time, the camera and its subject.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second feature-length film by Jia Zhangke, <em>Platform<\/em> was originally 210 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll be watching the shorter 194-minute version, which is the director\u2019s preferred cut.
