Non-idiomatic\u00a0improvisation is supposed to treat all music as possible material for\u00a0improvisation. But music is never just about music. In a non-concert we\u00a0could use everything possible as material for improvisation: power\u00a0relations, ideas, concepts, the context, history, architecture, our bodies,\u00a0affects, desires, sex\u2026<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t need instruments that would mediate our relation to each other\u00a0and reinforce ourselves as musicians. Whether we want it or not, we all\u00a0are always already performing in some way or another. There is no\u00a0neutral position or activity. The question is whether we are performing an\u00a0established role (such as audience or performer) or something different\u00a0altogether? Something that goes beyond individual or collective\u00a0authorship.<\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s concentration camp of forced participation, where everybody in\u00a0some way or other is producing some kind of value (economical,\u00a0experiential, cultural\u2026) to fall back on the notion of an abstract audience,\u00a0which takes its distance or is simply the observer of an object, is no longer\u00a0possible.<\/p>\n<p>In whatever situation we are in, we are producing sounds however quiet\u00a0these might be. Instead of judging these sounds aesthetically (which only\u00a0reinforces the idea of individual taste), can we listen to these sounds or\u00a0produce some new ones, in order to try to understand better what\u00a0situation precisely we are living through and change it?<\/p>\n<p>We can produce a different set of social relations accelerating the conflict\u00a0of the individual versus the collective. Lets forget about music and\u00a0musicians for the time being, and produce a social noise that cancels the\u00a0fetishisation of abstract sounds. Lets move together towards the\u00a0unwanted (musically, aesthetically, socially\u2026).<\/p>\n<p>If music is supposed to be organized sounds, then noise can\u00a0be\u00a0disorganized listening.
