Eleventh lesson: Couplings, sparkles and other overflows. June Crespo

by

I propose to use particular interests within a sculptural focus to approach audiovisual works of a markedly performative nature. Specific works by artists including Jon Mikel Euba, Sandra Cuesta, Iñaki Garmendia, Inazio Escudero and Elena Aitzkoa have anchored and articulated research for my forthcoming dissertation. Currently, I am trying to pick out and to structure similar qualities to those that occur in the process of producing and perceiving sculpture, taking my own practice as a reference. I want to provide an account of different relationships between subject, object and space, and to see how these translate into images. From a global, synthetic vision integrating a multiplicity of viewpoints of a free-standing object, to a haptic gaze which tends to rest on the surface of objects and distinguish their texture rather than their form. From a body travelling around the object, coming up to it from the side, moving between things, moving things around or suggesting a different route through the ‘vital space’ of objects. To a subject which is between things, on the same level of them, and allows the object to suggest.

For this session of EGB I would like to share materials I am working on in my research through a succession of texts, videos and images, to be integrated and completed by readings and discussion.

To take part in the session, which will take place from 10:00 to 14:00, and be sent the texts we will be using, please contact bulegoa@bulegoa.org
